Book Club Questions



  1. In Letters to Luke, we learn about Jesus through letters. What do they add to the story?  Why did the author choose letters for this purpose?

  2. Joseph of Capernaum is a man of science who becomes a man of faith.  When does he overcome his doubts and become a believer?  Is it wrong to have questions and doubts about our faith?

  3. Elisa is more spiritual than Joseph.  Is that true in most relationships?

  4. What does a physician’s perspective bring to the story of the Passion? How did it change your understanding of the last hours of Jesus on earth?

  5. Pharisees were prominent in their faith. They accepted the Scriptures and followed all the rules of Judaism.  In what ways could you be considered a Pharisee?

  6. Imagine yourself in Nazareth when Jesus preached in the synagogue. Would you have defended the local carpenter’s son?

  7. Why did Jesus speak in parables? Which parable do you find most difficult to understand or to accept?

  8. How would you explain to a child Jesus’ teachings on wealth? Does God reward the good with riches?

  9. Jesus said we must lose our lives to gain them.  What does that mean in today’s world?

  10. In Letters to Luke, Jesus laughs and sings and dines with his friends.  How can we develop the same kind of relationship with God?

  13. Was it necessary for John the Baptizer to prepare the way for Jesus?  How can we help prepare the way for Christ to enter the lives of those we love?

  14. In Galilee, people shunned the ill. Share an experience in which you felt shunned or ignored.

  15. Joseph was not called as one of the 72 disciples of Jesus. What did God call him to do?  In what way are we called to a greater purpose?
